Our 2022 Highlights
With 2023 fast approaching, we wanted to recap on what has been a tremendous year for the whacky world of Horus. There are too many events and developments to list in full, but below are some of the highlights from 2022.
Our events
During 2022 the team attended a variety of industry-led conferences:
The Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO) annual conference hosted by the University of Leeds in March 2022 was a great success and fantastic to see old friends and meet new people.
The highlight of the conference was our Chairman and Strategic Advisor, Colonel Tim Collins OBE, giving an extremely well-received after-dinner speech at the conference gala dinner where he thanked all of the University Security fraternity for their unflinching support to students and the Higher Education Sector.
May saw members of the UK and Singapore teams at the Milipol Asia Pacific conference at the Marina Bay Sands Resort in Singapore. Milipol Asia-Pacific is the leading international exhibition dedicated to homeland security in the Asia-Pacific region. This year’s conference was chaired by our other Strategic Advisor Boon Hui Khoo.
May also saw members of our UK and Horus North America teams attended the annual Energy Security Conference in Houston, Texas. The Energy Security Council (ESC) has been a leader in energy security education and networking since 1982.
In June, we exhibited at the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Due to our long-established experience in providing services to educational institutions, IACLEA was the perfect opportunity to share further insight into what we offer to this large global audience.
We did not have to travel so far for the OBN ‘BioForward’ event in September which was held in our home city of Oxford. October saw us host the second of two extremely successful Security Seminars in London for some of our key clients. Delegates, including those who travelled from Europe and the United States, were extremely forthcoming in their positive feedback about these events. We have already planned two further events in early 2023.
Community Commitments
Supporting the local community is at the heart of our company ethos and as such we have continued to support local organisations and sports teams throughout 2022.
Our ongoing support has continued with The Story Museum, located in the heart of Oxford, the Intelligence Corps Rugby team and junior football at Bromyard FC.
After the success of our Ox2Tex challenge, raising money to coincide with the opening of Horus North America, we have continued to support the mental health charity Mind.
In addition, Horus is delighted to now be an official sponsor of the Oxford University Rugby Football Club (OURFC). For Horus, and for many of our team, Oxford has been our home since 2006 and we are committed to supporting local teams and charities.
Horus North America
Horus North America has continued to flourish in 2022. We are delighted to announce that our Business Manager, Doni Whitlow who joined HNA in August 2021, will be expanding her involvement in business operations, by overseeing our North American client relationships.
Technology developments
We have continued to invest a great deal of time, energy, and resource to push our technology capability forward in 2022 and this focus has resulted in several key developments and new product releases in the year, some of which are detailed below:
HOSS V3
Our Research & Development team delivered the latest version of the Horus Online Screening System (HOSS) early in 2022 to create a more streamlined and efficient platform for our clients.
Some of the enhancements in this platform include:
- A smoother and faster user experience for clients.
- A simpler search functionality for clients, making it easier to monitor progress.
- The ability for clients to bulk upload candidates, saving them time.
- The ability to access quick screening checks, such as ID verification.
- Enhanced security, including multi-factor authentication.
We have seen the Horus-I travel app visit all four corners of the world in 2022 such as Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America – to name a few. We are determined to tick off South America and the two poles in 2023!
Some of the improvements include:
- Continued advanced functionality
- Upgraded mobile framework to allow greater location tracking and functionality
- New Cluster feature which allows alerts to be displayed as grouped ‘hot-spots’
Horus AI
In early 2022 the Horus team commenced new ground-breaking work with the University of Essex’s School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE). The intention of this project is to build pioneering capabilities for Horus information collection, analysis, and dissemination through two forms of Artificial intelligence (AI) – Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
HART
The Horus Analysis and Research Toolkit (HART) which is used to harvest a vast range of sources on the internet to extremely high standards have also experienced some key developments through 2022.
We have implemented a new proxy to make the platform even more efficient and reliable and the number of sources which the tool accesses has continued to grow.
